Dear friend, I understand that it can be difficult not to compare yourself to others. It's natural to want to measure your progress and success against others, but it can also be unhealthy when it leads to negative feelings and self-doubt. It's important to remember that everyone has their own journey and that success looks different for everyone. Just because your friends may seem to be doing better than you in certain areas doesn't mean that you're not also accomplishing great things. From a Buddhist perspective, the concept of "mudita" can be helpful. Mudita is the practice of finding joy in the success of others. Instead of feeling envious or inferior when your friends do well, try to genuinely celebrate their achievements. This can help you shift your focus from comparison to appreciation and gratitude. Additionally, practicing mindfulness can help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, which can help you catch yourself when you start to compare and reframe those thoughts in a more positive way. From a psychological perspective, it's important to work on building self-confidence and self-esteem. When you feel good about yourself and your own abilities, you're less likely to compare yourself to others. You can do this by setting achievable goals and working towards them, practicing self-care and self-compassion, and surrounding yourself with supportive people who encourage and uplift you. It's also helpful to challenge negative self-talk and replace it with more positive and affirming thoughts. In terms of coaching advice, I would suggest focusing on your own journey and progress. Make a list of your accomplishments, both big and small, and remind yourself of them when you start to compare yourself to others. Set realistic goals for yourself and work towards them at your own pace. Practice gratitude and find joy in the success of others. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who encourage and uplift you. And finally, practice self-compassion and challenge negative self-talk. You are doing great things, and there is no need to compare yourself to anyone else.
