i am feeling down, depressed and useless. after finding out at work I may be the person less skilled even if others in the team are the same level but got more praise because they got some tasks more important. I worked hard and try to help on everything, even things I do not know so I can evolve. I always got great feedback for my work. But it is not shown compared to others. am i being to hard on myself?

I hear you, and I want you to know that your feelings of being down, depressed, and useless are valid. It can be incredibly disheartening to feel like your efforts are not being recognized or appreciated, especially when you are working hard and trying your best. It's understandable to feel discouraged when you perceive that others are receiving more praise or recognition for tasks that may seem more important, even though you have been putting in a lot of effort and receiving positive feedback for your work.
From a Buddhist perspective, it's important to remember that our worth and value are not defined by external validation or comparisons to others. Each individual has their own unique journey and path, and it's essential to focus on your own growth and development without getting caught up in the trap of comparison. Embracing the concept of impermanence can also help in understanding that situations at work, like praise or recognition, are transient and not the ultimate source of fulfillment or contentment.
From a psychological standpoint, it's crucial to practice self-compassion and self-care during times of self-doubt and comparison. Recognize that it's natural to have moments of feeling not good enough, but it's essential to challenge these negative thoughts with self-affirming beliefs. Reflect on your strengths, accomplishments, and the positive feedback you have received in the past. Consider having an open and honest conversation with your supervisor or a trusted colleague about your concerns and seek constructive feedback on areas for growth.
As a coaching suggestion, I recommend setting realistic goals and boundaries for yourself at work. Focus on tasks that align with your strengths and interests, and communicate your career aspirations with your team to ensure that your efforts are recognized and valued. Practice mindfulness techniques to stay present and grounded in the moment, rather than dwelling on comparisons or self-criticism. Remember to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and prioritize self-care activities that bring you joy and fulfillment outside of work.
