I lost my once-had big purpose of life. I wanted to be a professor in philosophy and politics but I never pursued the path. Now I am 33. I am unsure if I even want to be a professor. How can I refind by big purpose in life and feel the gravity?

Dear friend, thank you for reaching out and sharing your feelings. It can be challenging to feel like you have lost your sense of purpose, especially when you have had a specific goal in mind for a long time. It's understandable that you may be experiencing some uncertainty and questioning whether being a professor is still the path you want to pursue. It's okay to feel this way, and you are not alone in this experience. From a Buddhist perspective, it's important to remember that our purpose in life is not fixed and can change over time. Our experiences, thoughts, and feelings can lead us down different paths, and that's okay. What's essential is that we remain present and open to what life presents to us. It's also important to practice self-compassion and not be too hard on yourself for not pursuing your initial goal. From a psychological perspective, it may be helpful to take some time to reflect on what brings you joy and fulfillment in life. What activities make you feel most alive, and what values are important to you? It's also essential to be patient with yourself and not rush the process of finding your purpose. Sometimes, it takes time and exploration to discover what truly resonates with us. As a coach, I would suggest taking some time to explore different paths that interest you. Take some classes or attend workshops in areas that you might enjoy. You could also consider working with a career counselor or coach to help you identify your strengths and interests. Remember to approach this process with curiosity and openness, and trust that the right path will present itself to you in due time.
